Harley-Davidson considering moving work to Kansas City

Harley-Davidson Inc. may move its Milwaukee manufacturing to a plant in Kansas City, Mo., if the company cannot reach an agreement with its labor unions here, a company spokesman confirmed Friday.
The decision will depend on the outcome of football jerseys negotiations that are taking place with the United Steelworkers of America and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
Harley-Davidson has said its goal is to cut millions of dollars in costs from its Wisconsin operations, which employ about 2,000 people.
Should the negotiations fail, Harley could nfl throwback jerseys move its powertrain operations - which manufacture motorcycle engines and transmissions - to a company plant in Kansas City that currently assembles motorcycles.
Then, motorcycle assembly would be moved from Kansas City to a Harley-Davidson plant in York, Pa.
It is one of the scenarios the company is considering, said Harley spokesman Bob Klein.
The company expects to make its decision by mid-September, Klein added.
It is negotiating with the unions for a combined contract that takes effect April 1, 2012.
Among the company's goals is the ability to hire and lay off workers more quickly to better adjust to authentic nfl jerseys seasonal business fluctuations. Under current work rules, it can take as long as three months to lay off unneeded workers or recall them, not including training time.
