Packers’ QB Rodgers as reliable as always
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP)—Aaron Rodgers(notes) already was having a good day, rallying the Packers from an early 10-point deficit. Still, he stood on the sideline unfulfilled.
It only took a few seconds for that to change.
Four-time MVP Peyton Manning’s(notes) 2-minute drive stalled at midfield, giving Rodgers 1:33 left on the clock and 78 yards to work with—the type of time and distance Manning has used to add to his trophy shelf.

The reliable Rodgers is the top reason why the Packers have embraced high expectations that they’ll be better than last year, which ended with a first-round playoff exit. Rodgers has two straight seasons of more than 4,000 yards and this preseason in about as much action as a full game he’s completed 77 percent of his throws with six TDs and no interceptions.

Jared DeVries disappointed he was placed on IR
If this is the end of the line for Jared DeVries(notes) in Detroit, and it certainly looks like that is the case, it was a rough ending for a player who has brought a lot to the organization for 12 years.

Legion, gathering in area, discusses aiding veterans with education
Thanks to the new GI Bill, hundreds of thousands of veterans - many returning home from combat tours of Iraq and Afghanistan - are flooding college campuses and technical schools.
Some say those veterans, among the thousands gathering in Milwaukee this week, could be the next "Greatest Generation."
Just as American society was transformed by millions of nfl throwback jerseys World War II veterans earning college degrees upon leaving the battlefields of Europe and Asia, today's veterans are poised to change the labor pool into a much better educated workforce.
But first they have to get into a college, adapt to a learning environment vastly different from the military and earn a degree.
"One of the biggest issues for veterans is reintegrating into a society that's disconnected from the military experience and military life," Derek Blumke, executive director of Student Veterans of America, said Thursday on the opening day of the National American Legion Convention.
Recognizing the challenges facing student veterans as well as campuses that are coping with an influx of older students, organizers of the National American Legion Convention scheduled a two-day symposium on the topic, which continues Friday. Student veterans, representatives of veterans organizations and educators are discussing how to handle the growing population of people who are trading M-16s for schoolbooks.
The weeklong National American Legion Convention is drawing an expected 10,000 veterans to the Frontier Airlines Center in Milwaukee. Speakers will discuss foreign relations, veterans affairs, business development and health care issues. Secretary of nfl football jerseys Defense Robert Gates, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader John Boehner are scheduled to speak next week.
On Thursday, Blumke and other student veterans gathered to talk about what it's like to land on a college campus where fellow freshmen are five or six years younger. Often feeling isolated from the rest of the student population, some have difficulty transitioning from the disciplined life of the military to the less structured atmosphere of a college campus.
"You sit in a class with a kid who asks if you killed somebody or why you joined the military," said Blumke, 29, an Air Force technical sergeant who maintained AC-130 gunships in Afghanistan.
The number of student veterans is growing so quickly, Student Veterans of America is adding an average of eight new chapters on campuses each week. There are 281 chapters across the country, including nine in Wisconsin.
Gerald Kapinos, 29, an Air Force veteran who is on track to earn a history degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in December, said difficulties last year with delayed Post 9-11 GI Bill payments mostly have been ironed out. The problem was that so many veterans were enrolling last year that a backlog prevented some students from getting their stipends and money for books and other expenses for months.
Part of the mission of Student Veterans of America is ensuring schools open resource centers to help veterans negotiate the maze of class schedules, GI Bill forms and other paperwork, as well as offering mentors who are veterans to work with new students. The organization is also trying to get more colleges to accept military training for college credit, such as time spent at leadership schools for noncommissioned officers.
"It's not something the university needs 2010 nfl jerseys to give away credit for, but it's something that should be looked at," said Blumke, who added that UW-Madison allows its ROTC chapters to approve prior military training for college credit. "That's something Wisconsin is doing right."

Harley-Davidson considering moving work to Kansas City
Harley-Davidson Inc. may move its Milwaukee manufacturing to a plant in Kansas City, Mo., if the company cannot reach an agreement with its labor unions here, a company spokesman confirmed Friday.
The decision will depend on the outcome of football jerseys negotiations that are taking place with the United Steelworkers of America and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
Harley-Davidson has said its goal is to cut millions of dollars in costs from its Wisconsin operations, which employ about 2,000 people.
Should the negotiations fail, Harley could nfl throwback jerseys move its powertrain operations - which manufacture motorcycle engines and transmissions - to a company plant in Kansas City that currently assembles motorcycles.
